And plaster pieces look wonderful in a range of spaces, she adds. "It can be applied to both traditional and more modern frames, so the look can be versatile. Light fixtures made of plaster are at home in a variety of spaces, from formal living rooms to outdoor porches."

2. Layered Lighting

"In 2023, we will be seeing more layering of lights in interior spaces that offer more daily function and can create different moods within our interiors," Amanda Shields, of Amanda Shields Interiors, says. Particularly, this will be the case in the bathroom, where we will see "more layers of different lighting throughout along with adding in back-lit mirrors," she adds.

3. Pendant Lighting

We will see more pendant lighting next year and in new places, such as above the dining table— not just over the kitchen island— says Hannah Rasa of InSite Builders & Remodeling. A few styles, in particular, will be having a moment.

"People will be wanting to create a mood outside with multiple hanging lights that will make a space feel magical and more interesting."

Love rattan? You're not alone! "People have been gravitating towards more natural materials," Hayslett notes. "We'll see more lighting that reflects a more of a neutral, modern, boho style feel with materials like rattan, rope, cane, and wicker in bathrooms and kitchens with pendant lights and sconces."

8. LED Lighting

Many designers cite LED lighting as something we will see more of in 2023. "Indirect lighting sources with integral LEDs are finally taking hold," Pavarini says. "Gone is the allure of the visible Edison bulb and glowing filaments."
