Lighting Design Services (Lighting Gallery Design Group)

Questions about LGDG, our professional lighting design service led by Michael Lichtenstein. See the full Lighting Gallery Design Group page for more.

What is the Lighting Gallery Design Group (LGDG)?

The Lighting Gallery Design Group is Lighting Gallery's boutique, principal-led lighting design service for residential, hospitality, and commercial projects. Every project is led directly by Michael Lichtenstein, who provides design direction and coordination through planning, fixture specification, and installation. LGDG is based in New York and works on projects throughout the metro area, with select clients nationwide.

Does LGDG work on whole-home projects?

Yes. LGDG provides lighting design for entire homes, renovations, additions, and new construction throughout the New York metro area, as well as for individual rooms and focused lighting challenges.

Can LGDG help with just one room?

Yes. Many clients hire LGDG for a single space — kitchens, dining rooms, primary bathrooms, foyers, stairwells, home offices, and outdoor areas — where lighting plays a major role in how the space feels and functions.

Does LGDG work with interior designers, builders, and electricians?

Yes. LGDG regularly collaborates with homeowners, interior designers, architects, builders, electricians, and installers throughout a project's design and construction process, and can also provide focused guidance for specific technical or design decisions.

Does LGDG handle AV, home automation, or smart lighting systems?

LGDG does not install or program AV, home automation, or smart lighting systems — those are handled by dedicated AV specialists. However, LGDG coordinates the lighting plan's dimmers, load types, driver compatibility, and infrastructure requirements so the lighting design works correctly with whatever smart systems are installed.

What does the LGDG design process include?

Depending on project scope, LGDG delivers recessed lighting layouts, reflected ceiling plans (RCPs), CAD drawings, fixture specifications with sizing and finish coordination, scaled mockups, factory samples, and trade documentation that electricians and builders can work from directly.

How much do LGDG design services cost?

LGDG design services are billed at $150 per hour. Smaller projects or single rooms are often completed within a few hours, while whole-home and renovation projects vary based on scope. Estimated hours and deliverables are discussed during the initial consultation before any work begins.

Can I purchase fixtures through Lighting Gallery after working with LGDG?

Yes. LGDG clients have access to Lighting Gallery's curated selection of decorative and architectural lighting from brands including Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting, Hinkley, Visual Comfort, Troy Lighting, and Bover, at preferred client pricing through the Huntington, New York showroom — though there is no obligation to purchase through Lighting Gallery.

Do I need an appointment for a design consultation?

Yes, appointments are required for LGDG design services. After an initial consultation, LGDG develops a formal proposal outlining scope of work, deliverables, and pricing before the project is scheduled. Book a design consultation to get started.
